CHICKEN HOUSE

The Chicken House is unique. It was built by a German farmer in the LuVerne area, who back plastered the walls, just as he was accustomed to do in the old country. There was method in his madness--it was easier to spread lime lice inhibitor on the smooth surface of the plastered wall.  There are many items connected to raising of chickens on display in the Chicken House.

RUTLAND JAIL

The one-room jail used to sit north of the main street in Rutland and was used mainly to house the town drunk overnight.  One desperado was said to have been held on his way to trial in eastern Iowa. The inside of the jail has been restored and furnished as it was at the turn of the century.
