Marble Valley
Cemetery
Avery Township, Humboldt
County, Iowa
This cemetery is located one mile north of of the main street of Gilmore
city and is situated on the northwest corner of section 31 in township
92 north, range 30 west of the 5th principal meridian in Iowa. (Sec.
31-92-10) It contains four and one-half acres counting the road. The
lots are 18′ by 18′ and the alleys around the blocks are 8′ wide. The
corners of the blocks are commemorated by burr oak stakes, the corners
of the lots by pin stakes. Survey was made September 29, 1888.
It is a beautiful
spot00the land is rolling and the beautiful evergreen trees surround it
on the north, west and south. The large maple trees are on the east of
the cemetery.
Many beautiful
trees were planted in 1942. These consisted of cannort, red cedar,
Norway maples, and Moline elm. Another won-half acre was purchased from
Ted Neubauer on September 20, 1958 for a roadway. Cost was $200 for
one-half acre. Avery Township levies the amount needed and Gilmore City
matches it. Gilmore City Cemetery Ass. handles it and Donald Day is the
secretary.
