Built in 1878, this stately Italianate
residential house has an interesting history. The
miller, Corydon Brown, Sr., a native of New York, built this gracious
home for his family close to the mill on the east fork of the Des Moines
River. For many years he and his wife, Lucelia Stevens Brown, made the
house the social and cultural center for the community. After the Brown
family moved away, it gradually deteriorated.
In 1966 the Art Kunerts and Mrs. Clarence Kunert
donated the Mill Farm House and surrounding land to the Humboldt County
Historical Association. Volunteers from all over the county worked to
restore the house. In 1968, Mill Farm House, furnished to reflect the
Victorian era in which it was built, was opened to the public.
In 1979 the house became the first building in Humboldt
County to be listed on the National Register of Historic Places.
